Description
Firstly I must preface this review with the fact that a) I love Apple products and b) This was not purchased for me. I bought this for my daughter so that she can watch movies (mostly Animations etc) on the go - Either for long drives or when she is bored on holiday etc. And for this the product really comes into it's own. I have owned iPod's since the original and have recently moved to iPhone and Nano for my music however these do not have the storage capacity for lots of films. This does and wow does my daughter now have a lot to choose from. She does not notice the smaller screen (if anything that probably makes it more attractive) and loves it. I would add that it is almost certainly worth changing the bundled headphones to the overhead style to avoid children poking things into their ears. In short a great product with a much clearer screen than the 60gb classic I was using a few years ago.I bought this ipod 120gb classic black and its no where near as good as I expected. I wanted to move from a 8gb to include more downloads but I am finding that the visuals rarely match the song being played, that downloaded films are deleted after they have been played and that the songs quite often jump when in the middle of one song to another. Maybe I got a Monday machine but its up for sale,
My strong advice is do NOT buy this product or any other Ipod classic. It does not synchronise reliably with Itunes - read apple's own user website - and Apple pretend the problem does not exist. Luckily for me, my Ipod was only 11 months old before it malfunctioned. I spent 30 HOURS of my life following their useless retrieval procedures. Apple tried first to deny the product was still in warranty. Then when I sent it back for repair, they sent it back to me within 24 hours saying they could not detect any fault. Yet I plugged it into to computer and hey presto EXACTLY the same fault occurred. It's not my computer or version of itunes as I have two other ipods - nanos - which work fine. I am now intent on getting my money back. And warning others not to buy this product.
A company of Apple's reputation and profitability ought to be ashamed of themselves. Roll on their competition. An excellent product that looks and feels like a brand new iPod, a great way to save a few essential pounds. This v. disappointed i-Pod classic owner is now trying to give his 15 month old i-Pod life support.
I "upgraded" to an i-pod classic, after several happy years with a 6GB Creative Zen Micro, to get extra storage capacity.
Whilst I got this, there are some distinct pitfalls with i-pod:
1. The i-tunes software which has to be used with i-pod is not particularly user friendly. Particularly annoying is that synchronisation is 1-way only, so if like me you want a portable music player and storage device, they expect you also to retain all your music in i-Tunes format on your PC. This negates the potential for using i-pod to store your music - as you can't synchronise from the i-pod.
2. After a short life the internal battery, which can't be replaced, is not holding a charge - after a good few hours charging on the short walk to work my i-Pod again just died.
I think next time around i'll sacrifice some capacity for a better product, and it won't be an i-pod.
