Description
What can I say, 3rd time lucky? It has stopped working twice now and has thus proved to be highly unreliable. My Sandisk MP3 that I have had for 4 years has never once given me problems so I know what I will be getting next time and it wont be an i-pod.This is the first-time I have purchased an Apple iPod Nano (8GB). I bought the silver colour although I wouldn't have minded the black. Previously, I had an Acer (10GB)for three years but began to experience headphone socket problems with it - hence my change to Apple.
The Apple 8GB is very small, slim and compact. After a little tuition from a friend, it became very easy to use.
The only problem that some (first-time)purchasers might experience is downlaoding the iTunes programme and then navigating their way through it. I was not interested in downloading music from iTunes - I only wanted to record tracks from my CD collection. After being shown how to do this by my friend and learning some of the other little facets, I am now fairly adept at it all.
Now that I have downloaded my favourite tracks, I have nearly 3 days worth of music - so iTunes tells me. I think it is a very good product and good value from Amazon. At the young age of 52 I bought my first Ipod...I absolutely love it. The sound quality for something so small is amazing...why did I wait so long !!The Ipod nano is indeed a fantastic product - a credit to the Apple brand. The 3rd generation nano however, is - disappointingly - a considerable regression from the 2nd generation model.
Backward steps:
Ergonomics: the key lock switch has been moved from the base (near the other buttons) to the top. Result: for every change of the volume, i've got to move the ipod around in my hand (so that i can reach first the lock, then the wheel).
Battery life: the 3rd generation nano has a considerably shorter battery life than the 2nd generation. It's still pretty long, but it wasn't good enough for a recent coach trip.
Accelerometer: whenever lying horizontal, the screen switches to cover flow. That could be handy for some people. But it's a bloody pain if all you want to do is change the volume.
Improvements:
Weight: believe it or not, they've managed to cut back further (lost battery weight).
Memory: as expected, they've upped it to 16GB - i can carry a larger proportion of my lectures, audio-books and music library. That gives me more freedom.
Overall, the 3rd generation nano is great, but it is inferior to the 2nd generation nano. We've come to expect the best of design from Apple. In this case, they seem to have abandoned sensible trade-offs, and compromised quality to meet their weight saving target.Great product and best price at Amazon. Slimline and easy to use, shake to shuffle and comes in lots of colours.
